Oakbark Mercia
Swedish champion
(GBCh Oakbark Master Cobbler -
GBCh Savilepark Saucy Shrimp of Oakbark)
4 January, 1994 - 10 October 2005
Breeders: D & D Meakin,
England
Solveig & Nisse Ågren, Sollentuna, Sweden have for many years given
Mercia a wonderful, happy life.
UPDATE 20 October 2005
October 10 Mercia died from an uncurable cancer, which was
diagonosed this Summer,
but until the very end she lived a good life, without suffering.
Many of us saw her looking so well and full of life as late as a month before
she died,
when she came along as a visitor to the International show at Högbo in Sweden.
Mercia will be greatly missed as she was such a special
personality,
but she will be mainly remembered as an important brood bitch.
Her first litter of five red puppies with black pigmentation by Ch Sporting
Fields Irish Mist all became champions:
Ch A. Red Rooster was a successful show dog and sire at the Brinagar kennels in
Argentina.
Ch A. Red Robin went to Norway and has sired a couple of good litters.
Ch A. Red Rum has had a magnificent racing career and been awarded the Swedish
Whippet Club's
much coveted Triple Prize.
Ch A. Red Riding Hood has been a useful brood bitch for the Allsatin Whippets in
Greece
and finally our own Int Ch Airescot Red Redee, still at almost 10 years a lovely
show girl
and dam of many generations of healthy and sucessful whippets.
UPDATE 27 April 2005
Marie Jarl made this lovely painting on china of
Mercia.
Those of you who know Mercia will agree that this is not just a painting of a
whippet, it's really Mercia!
Thank you, Marie! It's now being enjoyed by Solveig and Nisse Ågren in their
home,
where Mercia herself is still going strong and enjoying her old age.
